Bringing Your Corners to Life: How to Choose and Grow Plants in the Rinco Corner Planter & Shelf

Transforming an empty, overlooked corner into a vibrant slice of nature is one of the easiest ways to elevate your home’s aesthetic. If you have recently picked up our Rinco Corner Planter, you already know how its minimalist, space-optimizing design and natural Oak finish can seamlessly blend into modern European interiors.

But since we leave the plant-picking up to you (plants are not included with the planter!), you might be wondering: What is the best plant to use, and how exactly do I grow it in this setup?

Whether you are hanging it in your living room, kitchen, or stairway, here is your complete guide to finding the perfect green companion for your new planter.

Water or Soil: How Does It Work?

A common question we get is whether to use dirt or water. Because the Rinco Planter features a sleek 2cm x 12cm transparent silicone tube, water propagation is the way to go. Trying to pack soil into a tube of that size can be messy and makes it difficult to keep the plant properly hydrated. Growing plants directly in water—often called hydroponics or water propagation—is incredibly easy, visually stunning, and keeps your walls completely dirt-free.

How to Grow Your Plant in the Tube:

  1. Take a cutting: Snip a healthy stem from an existing houseplant. Make sure you cut just below a "node" (the small bump on the stem where leaves grow out), as this is where new roots will sprout.
  2. Add water: Fill your Rinco silicone tube about ¾ full with room-temperature tap water.
  3. Place your plant: Submerge the node into the water, ensuring no leaves are sitting below the waterline (which can cause rot).
  4. Maintenance: Every one to two weeks, or if the water looks cloudy, simply lift the tube out, rinse it, and refill it with fresh water.

How to Find the Right Plant

Since the planter has a 1kg weight limit, you will want to choose lightweight plant cuttings that thrive in water. Here are a few excellent options depending on where you place your planter:

  • For High Corners (Trailing Plants): If you are placing your Rinco high up in a living room or hallway, vining plants look beautiful cascading down the wall. Pothos, Heartleaf Philodendron, and Tradescantia are incredibly resilient and root in water rapidly.
  • For Kitchens (Culinary Herbs): Maximize your kitchen corners by growing functional herbs! Snip stems of Mint, Basil, or Rosemary, place them in the tube, and you will have fresh leaves ready to harvest while cooking.
  • For Bathrooms or Toilets (Humidity Lovers): Spider Plant babies or small Monstera cuttings thrive in the higher humidity of a bathroom and look highly architectural.
